The Music Addict’s VerdictIntriguing British pop/rock duo that blends a wide range of influences

How was the band formed?

Maidon is singer-songwriter Aldan Torres with close collaborator and arranger Ivan Pela in leading guitar. We both are long-term music partners and have been working on and off together. The project was created after members took some time off music and preceded by a period of substantial creativity. The rest of the story cannot be told, it must be heard.

What’s your songwriting process like?

I normally write the music in the first instance and just focus on coming up with a really good thing. When I hum and sing nonsense to find a melody I sometimes say something with sense and in a few occasion I have included that idea on the lyrics content. However, as I said music comes first for me and then, depending on the mood I am or what I have in my mind at that moment I try to write the right lyrics. It is important to say that it hardly ever happens at the first attempt or in one go.

What are your influences?

Musical influences come mainly from the 80’s and 90’s. British and American great pop & rock bands and artists have been the base of our music. Bowie, U2, Stone Roses or Radiohead to name a few, are a model for us. If you put all that music in a blender along with more modern sounds you will get Maidon’s music as a result.

How would you describe your music?

I would say we make a mix of pop and rock music, but nowadays it is very common that this kind of music is labeled as indie as well. We carefully work on the production part because for us it is important to get a powerful sound. We try to do well-crafted catchy tunes but we do not pay much attention to in which specific genre it will be included.

What’s the one thing that makes you stand out from the rest?

Probably the most peculiar feature of this project is that we wanted to keep the essence of the glorious 80’s and blend it with a more modern and fresh sound. The result is high-quality tunes.

What’s your latest release?

We released our last single (Don’t Do This to Me) in all digital platforms a few weeks ago – on 17 January. It is a powerful and catchy tune with a killer chorus – it is performing very well so far with 25K+ streams on Spotify in 4 weeks.

What are your touring plans for the next few months?

There are no scheduled shows at the moment but we are pushing for a proper tour in order to introduce the band to the fans. What we can say is that you cannot miss the first opportunity you have to see Maidon live – without a doubt it will literally blow your mind.
