How was the band formed?
Roméo: In 2017 under the name Reaven but at the beginning in 2005 under our previous name The Distroy. We started to make music together at school, years ago. It began with concerts in our hometown for Vince and I.
What’s your latest release, and what can you tell us about it?
Our latest release is our single ‘Escape”. The song was created during the quarantine, in the middle of the night. We wanted to express through music and this (homemade) video the struggle we are all living these days. For some people, it is a physical struggle, the fact of being locked up in small spaces. For others, it’s a psychological fight. We all need to escape a bit the reality from time to time. Especially when the daily life is getting complicated. This song reflects what we feel during this period. Tough moments, good moments. But above all, we will never stop believing that there will be brighter days. We’re all together in the same boat. And sooner or later, we will all escape this rough time together.”
What’s your songwriting process like?
I don’t have a precise creative process to create music. Most of the time, it comes to my mind out of nowhere. Day and night. I have a melody in my head or the instrumental parts, sometimes both. So I take my piano or my guitar and I start playing it. Inspiration is everywhere for me. In my feelings, in my observation of the world or society, in the past, in my memories. Or just when I see something that inspires me at one moment.
What are your influences?
Our sound is inspired from a large panel of influence: from the Woodstock years, The Beatles etc… to more recent bands like Kings of Leon, Muse etc…We also have Rhythm ’n’ blues, classical and jazz influences… I guess we’ve been influenced by their sounds and the way they build a composition! The Beatles, for example, always have very catchy melodies and I guess because of them I always paid a special attention to the melodies in my compositions.
How would you describe your music?
A very personal pop/rock sound with catchy melodies and a fresh touch of electro.
What’s the one thing that makes your band stand out from the rest?
I think we are real performers when it comes to live. And we have a huge interaction with people during our shows. Each show for us is really unique and we always play like if it was the first time.
What are your plans for the next few months?
For the next few months we will try to reschedule our European tour and our 1st US tour that was supposed to be done this year. Everything is postponed to 2021…
