It was 49 years ago today that The Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. Their first US appearance broke TV viewership records and launched the British Invasion in music.
I’m betting few people could foresee the radical transformation the Fab Four would undertake over the next 5 years. From bubble gum pop to artistic, and at times experimental, rock, few artists have evolved so much over so little time.
Their setlist for this historic performance was:
- All My Loving
- ‘Till There Was You
- She Loves You
For people in 1964 watching the show, it was a fleeting appearance that lived on only in their memories. Thanks to the magic of Youtube, we can watch it over and over.
