What’s your songwriting process like?

I‘ll usually record a riff or a musical idea of some sort on my computer first, and build from there over time. The lyrics/vocals usually take the most time for me to complete.

Marc Durkee – Remain in Stasis (2019)

What are your influences?

I started playing guitar when I was 8 years old, mostly based on my love for Metallica. In my teenage years, I got more into punk/post hardcore bands like Alexisonfire and Thursday, and I also discovered Dream Theater around the same time – that was my introduction to progressive music. Some of my current favourite bands are Katatonia, TesseracT, Devin Townsend, Anathema, Coheed and Cambria, The Dear Hunter, Architects, The Contortionist – among many others.

How would you describe your music?

Atmospheric, Progressive, Melancholic, Dark

What’s the one thing that makes you stand out?

If you look back on my previous releases, you’ll find my older stuff is mostly all acoustic and folky. I only started releasing heavier music in the past few years. I tend to change between different genre’s and not necessarily stick to one particular sound.

Have you ever played in Montreal?

I’ve played Montreal many times with the progressive metal band The Chronicles Of Israfel, in which I play bass. Some of the most fun shows we ever did were at Petit Campus, the last one in October 2016 being the most memorable.

What are your touring plans for the next few months?

Hopefully, a few local shows around Yarmouth if I can set them up, and I’d like to perform around Halifax as well if possible. Currently exploring my options.
