How was the band formed?
Myself (Eric Gynan) and Eve (Lead vocalist) started Leaving Eden with the name based on the garden of Eden being this whole planet originally, now full of contempt and deceit. Wouldn’t it be nice to go somewhere else?
What’s your songwriting process like?
I am the song writer and I like to connect with the universe, kind of like meditation and just listening. Some songs come from dreams, and I wake up hearing the entire song in my mind’s eye. All I have to do is transfer that to a recording. It comes from somewhere else. Other times, I may come up with a lyric and then put the music to that or vice versa. The rest of the band then puts their twist on the music when recording.
What are your influences?
So many, where we have played with Black Sabbath, Alice In Chains, Disturbed, Shinedown, it’s great to share the stage with some of your greatest influences. I definitely like Pop evil, Fleetwood Mac, Simon and Garfunkel. Multi Genre for sure.
How would you describe your music?
I started out saying rock band but also metal, Hard rock, acoustic stuff, and mainstream. So as I said Leaving Eden is a multi genre band.
What’s the one thing that makes you/your band stand out from the rest?
I think Eve as a lead vocalist is second to none. I always say Leaving Eden is best seen live. She really engages the crowd in every possible way. Paired with the lyrics and crafting of the songs, with the rest of the band members. I believe helps to elevate the band.
What’s your latest release?
We have just released our newest album “The Agony of Affliction” released by Dark Star Records/Sony. The title track will be in Massimiliano Cerchi’s movie ‘Lockdown’ starring Michael Pare (The Philadelphia Experiment, Eddie and the Cruisers).
We are excited about this new album, not only because of the production value, but the entire album will also be featured in a new fake reality comedy movie titled ‘The Nitwit’. Originally I had written this movie script loosely based on real life events with the intention of having Leaving Eden’s music throughout the movie and procuring other pros to make the movie. While in Iowa after wrapping up on a shoot, I sat down with Ray Van Blarcom and Matt Moody over a scotch and threw the script down on the table. They started reading it, and thought it was hilarious so we decided to make the movie. For me, having been the director of several music videos, it was a very simple transition to direct ‘The Nitwit’. I was intrigued by Matt Moody’s experience not only in production but as an actor. Ironically Matt fit the leading role as ‘The Nitwit’ perfectly then he also brought in Jordan Smith as his costar and the rest is history. We expect the movie to be released in 2020 by SGL Entertainment.
Have you ever played in Montreal?
We’ve played in Toronto so not Montreal as of yet but certainly would love to.
What are your touring plans for the next few months?
